Slow Cooker Chicken and Gravy
Slow Cooker Chicken and Gravy is the perfect weeknight dinner. It’s just four main ingredients, so you can set it and let the crock pot work its magic for a savory dinner time hit. We love to serve chicken and gravy over a heaping pile of fluffy mashed potatoes.

- 6-7 Quart Crock Pot
- 2 pounds chicken thighs or chicken breast– I’m using 6 chicken thighs in this dish. This fed 4 of us, two were kids, so if you are feeding 4 or more adults you’ll want to use chicken breasts or 8-10 chicken thighs.
- Chicken broth– or vegetable broth
- 14.5 Oz can cream of chicken soup
- 2 packets of your favorite gravy mix– I’m using turkey gravy because that is what I had on hand in my pantry. I’ve also used brown gravy and chicken gravy. It’s all delicious!
- Seasonings– dried parsley, sage, oregano, onion powder, pepper, and bay leaves
- Optional: carrots and/or cubed potatoes. I love this over mashed potatoes, but you could certainly throw in some cubed potatoes. I’ve also added frozen peas in the last 30 minutes of cooking.
How to make it
Always spray your crock pot with nonstick spray or use a crock pot liner for easy clean up. Place your chicken on the bottom with the carrots and/or potatoes, if using. Sprinkle over both gravy packets.
Then, pour in the chicken broth and add the cream of chicken soup. Add in the seasonings and give the liquid a good stir. Throw in the bay leaves.
Cook on low 4-6 hours or on high 2-3 hours. If you are using chicken thighs you will not need as long of a cooking time as you will with chicken breasts simply because thighs are smaller and thinner. When using chicken thighs I cook 3-4 hours on low. When I use chicken breasts I’ll cook 5 hours on low.
If you are adding potatoes you’ll need a longer cook time, so keep that in mind.
If you want to add in frozen peas, green beans or broccoli, throw them in the last 30 minutes of cook time.
When the chicken is finished cooking, shred the chicken and serve over mashed potatoes or rice.
