Ravioli Casserole might be the easiest dinner ever! It’s just five ingredients- ground beef, mozzarella cheese, tomato sauce, parmesan cheese, and frozen ravioli. Anyone can make this recipe; it’s so simple to put together and I promise your family will love it! Even the picky eaters. 😉 This dish goes perfectly with easy garlic knots.

What you’ll need

  • 9×13 baking dish
  • Shredded mozzarella cheese– I prefer to shred it by hand because it melts better, but if you only have pre-shredded cheese on hand, that works too!
  • Grated parmesan cheese– to make it extra cheesy.
  • Lean ground beef– You could substitute ground turkey, Italian sausage, or half sausage and half beef.
  • Frozen cheese ravioli– Yep! Frozen! No need to cook or thaw first.
  • Tomato sauce– homemade or jarred, your preference.
  • Seasonings– salt, pepper, Italian seasoning for the beef and fresh basil or flat leaf parsley for topping.

How to Make Ravioli Casserole

Step 1: Cook the ground beef in a large skillet until no longer pink. Season to taste with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning.

Step 2: Pour 1/2 cup of sauce into the bottom of the baking dish. Line half of the frozen ravioli in an even layer on top of the sauce.

Step 3: Add half of the ground beef and 1 cup of the mozzarella cheese.

Step 4: Pour half of the tomato sauce over the beef and cheese and sprinkle on half of the parmesan cheese.

Step 5: Repeat the layers- frozen ravioli, beef, cheese, sauce, parmesan cheese. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Uncover and bake an additional 10 minutes. Sprinkle over more grated parmesan and fresh basil or parsley.

Tips and Tricks

  1. Add spinach and leave out the beef for a vegetarian option.
  2. Leave out the beef and use beef filled ravioli instead
  3. Try different filled ravioli such as ricotta and spinach, mushroom, or even lobster filled.
  4. Make a smaller amount by halving the recipe and using a 9×9 baking dish.
  5. Refrigerate leftovers for 3-4 days. Heat in the oven or microwave.
  6. Freeze this dish: Prepare the casserole with the cooked ground beef, but don’t bake it. Cover tightly with plastic wrap and foil and freeze up to 4 months. Bake from the freezer for 40 minutes covered and 10 minutes uncovered, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

  4. Add 1 single layer of the frozen ravioli (half the bag), then half of the cooked ground beef, 1 cup of sauce and 1 cup of the mozzarella cheese. Sprinkle on grated parmesan cheese.

  1. When you say tomato sauce, do you mean plain tomato sauce or do you mean spaghetti sauce, such as Prego from the store?
