I love making ham in the crock pot. This recipe is perfect for the holidays, when you need free up oven space, or if you are hosting a small gathering. It’s also great for an easy weeknight dinner anytime you are craving a juicy ham.
This slow cooked ham is just 6 simple ingredients; a boneless or bone-in spiral ham, brown sugar, canned pineapple, maple syrup, butter and a dash of cloves. Plus, it’s a dump-and-go recipe, minimal effort and little clean up required. That is my type of meal!
What you’ll need
- A 6 quart or larger crock pot
- 3-5 pound ham- bone in or boneless, mine came pre-cut; you can get precut or not, it’s totally up to you
- 1 can of pineapple slices in juice- we’ll use the juice in the glaze
- Light brown sugar
- Maple syrup- or use honey
- Butter
- Ground cloves- just a dash for warmth
How to make it
Full recipe card at the bottom of this post.
Spray a crock pot with nonstick spray or use a crock pot liner. Add in the ham.
In a bowl melt the butter then whisk in the brown sugar, maple syrup, pineapple juice and cloves. Pour over the ham.
Place the pineapple rings on top and around the ham.
Cook on low 3-4 hours or on high 2 hours, basting halfway through cooking time.
Optional: after cooking place the ham on a cook sheet or baking dish. Pour over the sauce and broil a couple of minutes to get a crispy finish.
Let the ham rest 10 minutes before slicing. Place ham slices on a serving platter with the pineapple slices and pour over the cooking juices.
If you find yourself with leftover ham, try this Leftover Ham Casserole to use it up!
We love ham with creamy mashed potatoes and homemade green bean casserole.
Is ham already cooked?
Most ham is already pre-cooked or at least half cooked. Typically it doesn’t matter since we are cooking the ham for 3-4 hours. But before you sneak a piece of ham straight from the package, make sure to check the label. Partially cooked or raw hams will generally say “cook thoroughly” on the package in addition to displaying cooking directions and a safe handling instructions label. (USDA)
