Cherries in the Snow is my go-to party dessert. It uses cherry pie fruit filling, but you could use any fruit filling you like. Blueberry would be delicious!

It’s a make-ahead dish and I love to be prepared! There’s only 6 ingredients and most you probably already have in your pantry! Most importantly, it’s delicious! It’s been around forever for a reason! Cherries in the snow is like a cherry cheesecake in a trifle dish.

  • Trifle dish or you can use a 9×13 baking dish– I love a trifle because you can see all the layers.
  •  Boxed angel food cake mix-you could also take a bigger shortcut and get a premade angel food cake or pound cake.
  • Cream cheese
  • Powdered sugar
  • Almond extract– cherries and almond extract were made for each other!
  • Whipped topping– I’m using store bought, but you can use homemade whipped cream
  • Cherry Fruit Filling– or your fruit filling of choice

How to make it

Prepare the angel food cake mix according to package directions and bake in a 9×13 baking pan.

Let cool completely. When cool, cut into 1 inch cubes.

Beat cream cheese and sugar together with an electric hand mixer until smooth. Spoon the whipped topping and almond extract to cream cheese mixture. Beat again until creamy and smooth.

Place half of the cubed angel food cake into the bottom of a trifle dish or a baking dish.

Spread half of the cream cheese mixture over the angel food cake.

Evenly spoon 1 can of the Cherry Fruit Filling.

Repeat the layers.

Refrigerate at least 2 hours, up to one day before serving.

  • 16 ounce boxed angel food cake mix + ingredients to prepare (it's probably just water)
  • 8 ounces cream cheese softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp almond extract
  • 8 ounce container whipped topping
  • 2-21 ounce cans Cherry Fruit Filling
