I love sandwiches for dinner! Not only is it super easy on a busy night, but we can customize them to what everyone likes. This hasselback style sandwich loaf can be made with any combination of meats and cheese your family likes. I’ve made it French dip style before with roast beef and provolone and dipped the sandwiches in au jus and they were incredible.
You’ll just need an uncut loaf of bread, like Italian. Walmart sells loaves for just $1! The trick to this is cutting the bread about 3/4 of the way through but not all the way. Then you’ll stuff the bread with meat and cheese (in my case it’s turkey and cheese) every other slice.
After the bread bakes, it’s cut into individual sandwiches. Serve your sandwiches with a side of fries and salad, corn on the cob, or your favorite vegetables. Make it a super simple weeknight dinner and serve with potato chips and be done!
I guarantee your family will love this one!
What you’ll need
- Sheet pan or baking dish
- 1 loaf of uncut bread such as Italian- just pick one up in the bakery at your favorite store
- Your favorite cheese/meat combo like Turkey and cheddar
- Cooked Bacon (optional)- I meant to have bacon in this, but I accidently burned it, so no bacon for me 🙂
- 4 tbsp butter, melted
- 2 tsp mustard
- 1 tsp Lawry’s garlic parsley salt mix- or your favorite combination of seasonings. This will get mixed with the butter and brushed over the bread.
How to make it
Preheat oven to 350°F.
Cut slits into the bread about an inch apart, don’t cut all the way through, just 3/4 of the way down to be able to stuff the bread. I love using an electric bread knife to easily cut the bread.
Stuff every other bread slice with cheese, bacon (if using) and turkey. Keep in mind we’ll be cutting these into sandwiches. See illustration below:
Mix the melted butter and seasoning together and brush over the top of the bread and into the slices. Get it in between the bread slices for extra yumminess.
Bake for 5-10 minutes until golden brown.
Slice into sandwiches and enjoy!
